ALSO, again with the short notice, there will be a swing dance at Georgia Tech this Friday. See here for more information. Comment with questions, concerns, random thoughts.

SSDA is co-ordinating taking a group to the dance. If you have not been getting the emails about SSDA activites and would like to, let me know. If you would like to be a part of this group, also let me know. It'll be fun!

I apologise for the short notice, but after a day of making and putting up fliers, I realised I hadn't posted about the Scottie Social Dance Association (SSDA) swing lessons this fall. Last year, when we were thinking of activities for this year, we thought about why people do or do not come out dancing. One concern a number of board members shared is that, while most dances feature free beginning lessons before open dancing, they never get past the beginner level. Obviously, offering free lessons from beginner-level to advanced-level is bad for the business of teaching dance, so no one does it. However, lack of expertise (or feeling like one lacks expertise) keeps people from dancing. Solution? Offer a series of not-quite-free lessons all in the same dance. So, this fall, we have the swing lesson series. Next semester we'll have the salsa lesson series.

Price: $3/lesson (or $15 for all five)
Dates: Thursdays, September 21 &28, October 12, November 2 & 16
Time: 7-8pm
Place: Katharine Woltz Room in Rebekah Scott Hall (a.k.a. Rebekah Woltz); there are maps and directions and other such things here

For other information, check out our website, or email our noble leader at jreyes @ agnesscott.edu. Or comment here and we'll sort things out.

Bring your friends and enemies!

Much love,
Catherine
(SSDA Treasurer)

P.S. You don't have to dress like the people in the picture. Or dance like them. Showoffs.

Apparently Paul Muldoon likes the SSDA shirts.

If only we could get him to wear one at his reading...

As I'm sure you've seen from the fliers (if you haven't, let me know: it means we've missed a spot!), there is a swing dance tomorrow night. We are hosting it in conjunction with the Georgia Tech Dance Association (GTDA) in lieu of their regular March dance. And we don't even have to leave campus!

There will be a free lesson at eight pm, followed by an open dance floor from nine to eleven. The event is $5 for ASC and Tech students, $7 for all other students, and $10 for everyone else.

There will be LIVE MUSIC from the Dave Bass Ensemble!

Spread the word.

ASEDA is promoting a "Thankful dance" This Friday at Glenn Memorial Church on Emory campus. At 8pm, there will be a beginning 6-count swing lesson before the dance and then open floor from 9-midnight. Agnes Scott students, if they flash their IDs, are only $4, and only $3 if you flash your ID and bring a canned good, as proceeds go to charity. For more information go to http://www.aseda.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=771

Also, if you volunteer to help out with set-up, clean-up, or manning the door, you can get in free. Just let me know if you can take a shift and I'll put you in contact with who you need to speak to.

What do you want to do tomorrow night? You want to go dancing! (Okay, and then sleep later.) There is a swing dance this Friday in the ballroom at the Georgia Tech student center. And you don't even need to know how to dance! There is a free lesson at 8pm (with the follow's part taught by one of our very own Scotties) and then dancing from 9pm until midnight. Student tickets for the dance are $7 each.

For more information, check out the Georgia Tech Dance Association website, http://www.gtda.org

Sorry for getting this info out so late, gals. Hope to see you all there!

Eep... so, due to some unforseen budgetary issues, we needed to cancel our Salsa party on Friday, September 16th. We will still have some useful dance lessons through October to prepare for a killer-diller swing event in November, so stay tuned for more announcements! Sorry about the salsa party. It was cool while it lasted.

Waiting in breathless anticipation for the next dance? Never fear! We're having a SALSA! That means, food, LIVE BAND, and much much more!

More importantly, the proceeds from this dance go to the Red Cross to help out with Katrina victims. We have required donations starting at $3 for ASC students, $5 for other students, and $7 for outside guests. You are more than welcome to donate more-- we are making NO profit on this event and we are covering all the costs with our budget.
